Resolution Opposing Question 6 - Expanding Abortion Rights in Nevada

WHEREAS, in Nevada abortion is currently legal for all 9 months. After 24 weeks (6 months), the abortion must be performed in a hospital.
WHEREAS, abortion is the intentional destruction of a living preborn baby in the womb; and
WHEREAS, Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom submitted for voter consideration a proposed amendment (Question 6) to the Nevada Constitution stating “[A]ll individuals shall have a fundamental right to abortion performed or administered by a qualified health care practitioner until fetal viability, or when needed to protect the life or health of the pregnant patient, without interference from the state or its political subdivisions;”
WHEREAS, any amendment to the Nevada Constitution affects current law and limits all future laws; and
WHEREAS, Question 6 guarantees abortion as “a fundamental right” irrespective of age and will remove parents from the decision-making process when their underage child considers abortion, undermining parental rights and leaving children unprotected from coercion and exploitation; and
WHEREAS, Question 6 shields predators who force women and underage girls into unwanted abortions, ensuring their crimes remain hidden and unpunished; and
WHEREAS, Question 6 would result in the elimination of all existing protections for the unborn, allowing for painful late-term abortions up and until the moment of birth; and
WHEREAS, Question 6 is full of vague language intended to mislead voters, that will leave critical decisions on the meaning of its words in the hands of judges; and
WHEREAS, Question 6 will remove the requirement for a licensed doctor to perform abortions and will remove the state’s ability to regulate abortion clinics, compromising health and safety standards and the lives of women; and
WHEREAS, everyone should be gravely concerned with non-doctors performing dangerous abortions in unregulated unsanitary facilities through all nine months of pregnancy, putting women’s lives, safety and health at risk; and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Independent American Party will stand firm against the passage of Question 6, to protect young girls, women’s safety and unborn children.
