Dear Independent Americans!
We had a very successful and rewarding State Convention for the Independent American Party this weekend at Arizona Charlie’s in Las Vegas.
We elected state officers for the State Executive Committee including: Janine Hansen--State Chairman, Bill Hoge—Vice Chairman, Jon Kamerath—Secretary, Lynn Chapman—Treasurer, National Committeemen—Kamau Barkari, Richard Engel, Andrew Alberti, Jr., Harry Vickers, At-Large members—Warren Markowitz, Russell Best, Charlene Young, and Legal Advisory Joel Hansen. Other important positions in the party were filled please see below.
Everyone was impressed with our speaker, Dr. John Lott, author of “More Guns, Less Crime” and the delicious buffet dinner. His numbers showed how the media distorts the truth about everything about guns and the use by honest citizens to reduce crime. One interesting note was how black Americans, who are often the targets of gun violence where they live, were increasingly protecting themselves and reducing violence by owning guns for self protection in states where concealed carry permits were easily available. He shared a wealth of research which proves the law abiding citizens who own guns make our communities and states safer. You can sign up and receive his emails at www.crimeprevention.org. We encourage you to do so!
Before Dr. John Lott spoke Alan Lefevbre, attorney for the Nevadan’s CAN Lawsuit against Governor Sisolak and the Unconstitutional Red Flag laws, gave us excellent background on the lawsuit. He told us how Nevada’s Constitution is much stronger than the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment. It states in Article 1 Section 1: “Every citizen has the right to keep and bear arms for security and defense, for lawful hunting and recreational use and for other lawful purposes.” We encourage you to support this lawsuit. Attorney Lefevbre is donating his time but there are court costs which must be paid. You can help them at: https://www.gofundme.com/f/stop-the-unconstitutional-red-flag-law
Our favorite Independent Americans, Cliven and Carol Bundy joined us to receive a special plaque awarding them the “Dan Hansen Defender of Freedom Award”. Dan was the Founder of the Independent American Party and a hero in our eyes. Cliven knew Dan and was touched by the sentiment. He then reported that in the face of all of his trials…being in jail and the ongoing battle in the courts…he just “Never Gives Up!”
The purpose of our Convention, as set out in Nevada State Election Law, is to choose our candidates. Our convention is our Primary Election. We selected candidates for U.S. Congress, State Legislature and County Commissions. We are looking for additional candidates to carry the banner of liberty and the Constitution through their campaign soap boxes to our fellow Nevadans. We will release our candidates when we file them with the Secretary of State on March 2, 2020.
Our meeting also included updating the Platform, passing current Resolutions, and adding a couple of small items to our Bylaws. Herding Independent Americans is like herding cats…so we had some intense moments as people shared their differences on ideas for the platform and resolutions. That debate helps to keep Freedom Alive! Consider our Founders and their debates!
We thank everyone who attended the Convention helping to make it a wonderful success!
Yours for Liberty, Janine Hansen
